In order to make it possible for students to obtain the necessary job skills, CET integrates basic education in reading and mathematics as well as Vocational English as a Second Language instruction for those who have had less formal education or who have limited English-speaking proficiency. An advantage of the open-entry, open-exit training approach for employers is that there is a constant stream of job ready graduates year-round in the skills offered in a given community. Therefore, employers do not have to wait for the next graduating class at the end of a semester for candidates to recruit from.
Since the inception of CET in 1967, our non-profit 501(c)(3), has received funding from two primary sources: over 50% from state and federal government and the remainder from the private sector. To secure continued growth, dependency on government funds is a risky proposition as political party control changes every few years. To maintain our consistent year-round training service quality, private sector funding continues to be of utmost importance.

In program year 2008-2009 CET operated training centers providing training and placement services to 5929 individuals in 17 communities across the nation. The great majority of those served included youth and adults with significant employment barriers. Providing job training and placement alternatives to those with multiple barriers, of course, has been the forte of CET since its inception.
