Approximately 130 head of Braunvieh were imported into the United States from Switzerland between 1869 and 1880. This was the basis for the development of the American Brown Swiss that was declared a dairy breed in 1890, and therefore became a different breed. American Brown Swiss have since spread to Canada, Mexico and throughout the world including Switzerland. In the mid-nineteen hundreds, Original Braunviehs were imported by Mexico where they have flourished as a beef breed. In Mexico, they are used in a commercial capacity to upgrade the beef characteristics of the indigenous Zebu cattle. There, separate herdbooks are kept for the cattle, sometimes referred to as European type Brown Swiss and American Brown Swiss.

Farm Hours: (EST) Closed To The Public We have been helping folks get organic and natural foods for over 20 years. In 1996 our Virginia Beach farm was Virginia certified organic. We produce nutritious, better tasting, wholesome fruit and vegetables which have been available through local natural foods stores. As of 2003, with the much higher costs mandated by the federal organic program, we have opted to drop organic certification. While we have not changed our organic growing methods, we have decided to keep costs low and pass along the savings to our customers.

We also offer endodontics, dental restorative procedures such as crowns and orthodontics for dogs and cats. We maintain a large inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, medicated shampoos, flea and tick control products, heartworm preventatives and prescription diets. We provide day and overnight boarding for our clients. All of our boarders receive a minimum of 4 outdoors trips daily.
