Students train at their own pace in a highly individualized, non-competitive environment, with over 60% of the training conducted in a hands-on environment. An intensive program — students attend year-round, 6 - 7 hours a day, 5 days a week for an average of 7 months. Classes are conducted for small groups of students which reinforces the individualized training focus; a critical element in the contextual learning model.

In order to make it possible for students to obtain the necessary job skills, CET integrates basic education in reading and mathematics as well as Vocational English as a Second Language instruction for those who have had less formal education or who have limited English-speaking proficiency. An area of special interest in Life Skills is drug awareness and substance abuse prevention. CET follows Federal Drug Prevention and Awareness program guidelines. CET instructors spend time covering the effects of drugs, alcohol, and other substances on the individual, the family, and the community.

If you are interested in hiring a CET graduate, or learning more about becoming an employer of future CET job-skill trained people, call your local center. An advantage of the open-entry, open-exit training approach for employers is that there is a constant stream of job ready graduates year-round in the skills offered in a given community. Therefore, employers do not have to wait for the next graduating class at the end of a semester for candidates to recruit from.

Since the inception of CET in 1967, our non-profit 501(c)(3), has received funding from two primary sources: over 50% from state and federal government and the remainder from the private sector. To secure continued growth, dependency on government funds is a risky proposition as political party control changes every few years. To maintain our consistent year-round training service quality, private sector funding continues to be of utmost importance.

In program year 2008-2009 CET operated training centers providing training and placement services to 5929 individuals in 17 communities across the nation. The great majority of those served included youth and adults with significant employment barriers. Providing job training and placement alternatives to those with multiple barriers, of course, has been the forte of CET since its inception. Nearly half of the participants served were individuals who dropped out of elementary or high school. The percentage of persons with Limited English Proficiency was 29%. Thos typically served by CET include Public Assistance Recipients, Homeless, At-Risk Youth, Dislocated Workers, Migrant & Seasonal Farm Workers, and other unemployed persons.

Center for Employment Training (CET) was founded in 1967 amidst a time of heightened political and socio-economic activism that was occurring in the nation. A group of concerned citizens—among them founders Father Anthony Soto and Russell Tershy—organized to establish a job-training center for the working poor and low-income residents of the barrio “Sal Si Puedes” in Eastside San Jose, California. In it’s early years, CET’s principal target population was migrant and seasonal farm workers who were suffering in poverty with inhumane job conditions and low wages with the goal of preparing these workers for stable, full-time, permanent jobs in industry.

Aurora Innovations was founded in Eugene, Oregon by a group of conscientious, organic gardeners. Aurora Innovations is dedicated to bringing you superior and unique organic gardening products so you and our planet will be healthier and happier. Although there may still be some debate as to the exact reasons why Organic is a superior style of horticulture, at Aurora Innovations we were born natural and cannot conceive of there being any other way. While we recognize that some use and abuse the title for their own financial gain, we believe that Organic should mean a larger commitment to natural inputs as well as to sustainable practices that reduce our carbon footprints and create fair, living wage jobs. At Aurora Innovations we believe that we can do our part in the wider world by contributing to the production of healthier, more nutritious foods and medicines that are free from harmful chemicals and pesticides.

Investment, be it personal or societal, is essential to the development of a workforce. For some, from the day they are born, fortune or opportunity, or both, make it easier for them to receive and obtain quality education and preparation for a tough and complex work-world. Their minds are challenged, while their potential is nurtured; someone cares for them and/or has the resources to invest in their personal development and self-esteem. Their lifetime preparation and mentoring are more conducive to achieving careers that offer relaxation, creativity, growth and rewards – both emotional and material. At the very least, they have choices, because someone invested in them, and the returns are great, both for the individual and for the society in which they live. For others, from the day they are born, life is a super-struggle: survival, education, and self-confidence are all challenges. What life have you led? Should you invest to make someone's life better?
