My artwork ranges from very naturalistic art to work that is surrealistic. Much of my art reflects my interest in the chaos and randomness of nature that creates an order of its own. Many of my paintings reflect intricate, detailed scenes from nature. The work ranges in size from small, intimate drawings and watercolors to large oil paintings. I maintain a studio in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania and have had a long career as an artist, competing in many major exhibitions. I've won awards in the following exhibitions: Pittsburgh Society of Artists, Westmoreland County Museum Exhibitions, Washington & Jefferson College National Painting Show, Three Rivers Arts Festival, Pittsburgh, PA Nemacolin Woodlands Resort Invitational. My work has been exhibited at various local galleries: Bird in the Hand Gallery, Sewickley, PA; The Sewickley Gallery; World West Galleries, Washington, PA; Riehl Fine Art, Bethel Park, PA; Concept Art Gallery; Artists Co-Op, Washington, PA.

In 1977, brothers, John and Mike Lesczinski purchased Rochester Art Supply Inc, their family business. The retail store specialized in high quality artist materials. Therefore, committed to providing the best art supplies available, Mike began to introduce many new brands to the store shelves. He added brands like Gamblin, Golden, Escoda, Mussini, Blockx, and a lesser known brand of encaustic paints called Mrs. Appletree's Studio Encaustic Wax Paints. Intrigued by the potential of encaustic, Mike and John decided to buy the encaustic manufacturing company from its creator, Ann Huffman, in 1996. Not only we're they excited to get involved in manufacturing, but they also saw an opportunity for growth in this unique medium. The first step as owners was to rename the company, Enkaustikos. This was the greek word for "to burn in"...perfectly fitting given these paints need to be heated in order to use.

Gallery Hours: Thursday through Saturday from 12 - 6:30 PM. Gallery at Avalon Island is an independent contemporary art gallery displaying works by local and International artists. A new exhibit is displayed each month with an opening reception on the Third Thursday gallery walk. Most artists' receptions are from 6 PM - 9 PM. Complimentary beer provided by City Beverages, wine and hors devours are served. Musical entertainment is provided by Joseph Martens and each event is free to the public. Adjacent to the gallery is Guinevere's, a private cafe'. A separate gallery exhibit is included in the cafe' with an opening reception each Third Thursday of the month. When we started our business in 1989, we chose the name Natural-StateWines to reflect our philosophy of offering wines that have nothing to hide. We feel that wine is a natural product, and that a winemaker's goal should be to allow the grape and terroir to reach their own expression in the glass. Throughout history, inferior wine has been subjected to additives in an attempt to improve its appeal. At every instance, scrupulous winemakers have rightly condemned those who made adulterated wine. R&F Handmade Paints was established in 1988. In that time we have been instrumental in the expansion of encaustic painting throughout the United States and Canada both because of our manufacture of high quality encaustic paint and because of our extensive workshop program in encaustic technique. In 1990 we developed our second product, Pigment Sticks, of which Bill Creevy in The Oil Painting Book / Watson-Guptill, 1994 said, "Of all the brands of oil sticks currently on the market, none can compare in quality and beauty to R&F Pigment Sticks." The Gallery at R&F is the third component of our company. Through the gallery's bi-monthly exhibits of artists from around the country and our Encaustic Works series, a biennial international juried encaustic exhibit, we have promoted the work of artists who work in encaustic and oil paint. Yaddo offers residencies to professional creative artists from all nations and backgrounds working in one or more of the following media: choreography, film, literature, musical composition, painting, performance art, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Artists may apply individually or as members of collaborative teams of two or three persons. They are selected by panels of other professional artists without regard to financial means. Residencies last from two weeks to two months and include room, board, and studio. Founded in 1900 by the financier Spencer Trask and his wife Katrina, herself a poet, Yaddo is an artists' community located on a 400-acre estate in Saratoga Springs, New York. Its mission is to nurture the creative process by providing an opportunity for artists to work without interruption in a supportive environment.

Karen Moriarty's paintings are exhibited in Fort Wayne, Valporaiso IN and Evanston IL. Recently influenced by Larry Rivers, Helen Frankenthaler and Cezanne, she evolves, splattering and pouring paint onto delicately stained canvases. Primarily an oil painter, she has started gluing objects onto some works and experimenting with abstraction.
