American Women Artists is a non-profit organization dedicated to the inspiration, celebration and encouragement of Women in the Arts. The Tucson Museum of Art organized the first AWA exhibit in 1990. Response to the exhibit was overwhelming and it became an annual show and sale for the next four years. In 1994 the group had outgrown its western origins and no longer fit the Tucson Museum's agenda, so the artists left the museum, agreeing to continue exhibiting together. In 1996, American Women Artists: A New Legacy, was featured at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, WY. Local galleries supported exhibition by exhibiting works of currently represented AWA members.

The Scottsdale, Arizona gallery was founded the following year as Chiaroscuro Gallery and becoming Gebert Contemporary in 2008. The Santa Fe gallery became Gebert Contemporary in January 2007. The original Santa Fe location at 439 Camino del Monte Sol retains the name Chiaroscuro. Gebert Contemporary Art on Main Street in Scottsdale is open late on Thursday evenings during the popular arts walk. Gebert Contemporary specializes in the contemporary abstract painting and sculpture of an international group of artists. While most of the gallery artists are mid-career and established, we do exhibit a small number of emerging artists. Exhibited works come from Australia, Austria, Belgium, China, Germany, Mexico, Nicaragua, Poland, Spain, and the United States.

The first Junior League was founded in 1901 by a 19-year-old New York City college student, Mary Harriman. Moved by the suffering she saw all around her, Harriman mobilized a group of 80 other young women to work at a settlement house in lower Manhattan. The Junior League idea spread rapidly across the country, and by 1921 more than 40 Leagues joined together to form the Association of Junior Leagues. In 1925, Mrs. Lawrence F. Tucker, with ten charter members, formed the Junior League of Norfolk, and their first community service was providing transportation to city agencies. The Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Inc. (JLNVB), has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in direct grants to various community organizations, ranging from the cultural (Academy of Music), to the educational (Literacy Project PALS), to social welfare (ForKids, Inc.).

Founded in 1900 by the financier Spencer Trask and his wife Katrina, herself a poet, Yaddo is an artists' community located on a 400-acre estate in Saratoga Springs, New York. Its mission is to nurture the creative process by providing an opportunity for artists to work without interruption in a supportive environment. Yaddo offers residencies to professional creative artists from all nations and backgrounds working in one or more of the following media: choreography, film, literature, musical composition, painting, performance art, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Artists may apply individually or as members of collaborative teams of two or three persons. They are selected by panels of other professional artists without regard to financial means.

A century ago, artists were inspired to venture out into Brown County’s majestic hills, valleys and streams. They came for the summer and painted the “Peaceful Valley.” Soon there followed art students, writers, potters, weavers, naturalists and photographers until the small valley community became the town of Nashville. Street Level Artists Agency was founded by Larry Norman in the early 70's. He and friends Randy Stonehill, Daniel Amos and others were the Christian radicals of their time, intent on bringing the Gospel into the rock 'n roll vernacular of the common man. These were musical artists addressing those who would not darken a church door and those who believed but did not find resonance with the music being played in the church.
