Nightingale Antiques was created by me, Karyn Shaudis, in 1978. Little did I know a few antiques bought as the background in a window display would change my life. A trip to Europe and a container later the idea of mixing antiques and art was all I could think of. From a gourmet store to an antique store was quite a stretch, but I never looked back. The retailer in me wanted more: dimension, color, texture and the artistry only items created with skill and loving devotion could satisfy. Each piece has the ability to stand on its own as a work of art. Brought together the pieces form an art gallery of vintage and one-of-a-kind new treasures: to be adopted and cherished by clients with the same sense of wonder and delight.

In 1977, brothers, John and Mike Lesczinski purchased Rochester Art Supply Inc, their family business. The retail store specialized in high quality artist materials. Therefore, committed to providing the best art supplies available, Mike began to introduce many new brands to the store shelves. He added brands like Gamblin, Golden, Escoda, Mussini, Blockx, and a lesser known brand of encaustic paints called Mrs. Appletree's Studio Encaustic Wax Paints. Intrigued by the potential of encaustic, Mike and John decided to buy the encaustic manufacturing company from its creator, Ann Huffman, in 1996. Not only we're they excited to get involved in manufacturing, but they also saw an opportunity for growth in this unique medium. The first step as owners was to rename the company, Enkaustikos. This was the greek word for "to burn in"...perfectly fitting given these paints need to be heated in order to use.

Julie Hatch, the owner and artist of Bloomingtiles has been hand-painting tile for her clients since 1984. For many years Julie has searched for a way to reproduce her artwork in limited editions while maintaining the appearance, durability and rich color of hand-painted tile. Bloomingtiles is the result of this effort. It allows her to dedicate several weeks to complete one painting and then offer a reproduction of it at a fraction of the cost of her hand-painted work.

The beauty of nature is my main inspiration. Through my photography, I present nature, not as the lens captures it, but as I see, feel and experience it - an endless array of exciting colors, shapes and designs. I use various techniques to present what I feel and experience at the moment of capture. When nature gives me that perfect moment, I'll present it as a traditional photograph. When it doesn't, which is most of the time, I'll process the image in a more impressionistic manner that looks more like a painting, in fact, I call those my PhoDigital Paintings. Other times, I will use my lens as a paint brush, actually moving the camera while I'm shooting to produce a more abstract image.

Although little is known about the early prehistory of the area, most investigators assume that a sequence of human occupancy began prior to AD 1 and included desert archaic and basket maker cultures. For a period of several hundred years centered around 1100, both Kayenta and Fremont agricultural peoples occupied the area. The abandonment of a large Kayenta Anasazi village at Boulder in approximately 1275 ended the most significant period of prehistory. The village is presently part of Anasazi State Park. Hopi peoples apparently visited and hunted in the region for a period of 200 to 300 years. In the 1500's, Southern Paiutes began to visit the area and then occupied the region to historic times.
