This is a volunteer campaign to identify and landmark cypress trees (the Louisiana State tree) that are at least 200 years old--alive at the time of the Louisiana Purchase. We all have marveled at the huge old live oaks gracing many of Louisiana's parks, highways, residences, bayous, and byways. But did you know that the Louisiana State tree -the bald cypress- is in many cases at least as aged as our oldest live oaks and easily equals them for their grandeur and stateliness?

Ted Hebert began Teddy Bear Pools in 1975, operating out of his family's house in East Springfield. When he started, there were only four employees. The company sold, installed, repaired and serviced in-ground and above-ground pools. Teddy Bear is a play on the French pronunciation of Ted Hebert. (It was also Ted's nickname as a young child!) When his mother first suggested it as a business name, Ted was not convinced it was really appropriate. After thinking it over, he realized that the Teddy Bear symbol was friendly and family-oriented, a good representation of a business that was centered around home and family; it was easy to remember and very friendly so he incorporated under the name Teddy Bear Pools.

We are a federally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife education, rescue and the study of animal behavior. During this same period they designed Wildlife Education programs and offered them to local schools, clubs and community organizations. Many believe the Center is set on a mountain top named Indigo. In actuality, the facility is nestled in a peaceful valley at 8, 700’ in elevation. The Center is named in memory of a beautiful wolfdog that taught them the “ways of wolf”. Indigo died in 1998, but she will be forever remembered in our hearts.
