At Progressive EyeCare, cataract removal is performed through a procedure called phacoemulsification. In this procedure, high-energy ultrasound waves are used to gently remove your cataract. In most cases, we use only eye drop anesthesia, allowing our patients the fastest possible recovery. Once the cataract is removed, a permanent, artificial lens is inserted. It is not uncommon for our patients to have the benefit of dramatically improved vision within a few hours of their procedure.

Visual Acuity, or the accuracy of the eye to focus, is obtained by testing both eyes indivually. Madison County, the 23rd county in Mississippi was named for fourth President James Madison, and was created in 1828 out of Yazoo and Hinds Counties. It incorporates lands between the Pearl and Big Black Rivers where General Andrew Jackson met with the Choctaw Chieftain, Pushmataha. Madison County Medical Center was originally established as Kings Daughter Hospital in the 1930’s to provide for the acute health care needs of the growing community of farm and business families settling in Madison County. The first hospital was located on Hwy. 51, and then in 1965 a new hospital was built where Madison County Medical Center now stands and was staffed by professionals committed to caring, personal service. Currently, there is no medical treatment available to reverse cataract formation, or even stop its progress. However, cataract surgery is available to help restore the patients vision. Cataract surgery involves removing the cloudy lens from the eye and replacing it with permanent intraocular lens implant. We now have available multifocal implants which correct the vision at both distance and near. Not all patient’s are a candidate for this implant, this will be determined at the time of your pre-op visit.
