  • HEARTS OF AMERICA
    GA, 30506 GAINESVILLE, 4957 T MARTIN ROAD

We are dedicated to helping improve a soldier’s life abroad through heartfelt contriubutions from our community and across the U.S. Our project actually began as a family effort. Danny, an American soldier married to the cousin of the "Hearts of America" foundation founder, asked his wife to have friends and family send small toys (similar to the small toys in kid’s meals at restaurants) for the Iraqi children. His wife began the task of getting others involved in collecting these toys. Little did she know that her cousin was about to give new life to this wonderful cause. Amy Paden of Central Kansas was more than glad to help her cousin Anna in gathering toys to send. However as one donation led to another, Amy realized that she wanted to do even more for our troops in the Middle East. Amy has since become the organizer and founder of the project known as "Hearts of America."

  • ST. VINCENT S HEALTH SYSTEM
    AL, 35205 BIRMINGHAM, 810 ST. VINCENT'S DRIVE

The Daughters of Charity National Health System was established in St. Louis in 1986, but its roots extend back to 1633, when St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marrilac founded the Daughters of Charity in France. When, in 1668, Pope Clement IX granted permission for the Daughters to live outside the cloister, the tone for their ministry was set: They would go where they were needed, putting their mission to work in the real world. In 1809 St. Elizabeth Ann Seton formed the American Daughters of Charity in Emmitsburg, Md. Nineteen years later, in response to westward expansion set in motion with the Louisiana Purchase of 1804, the Daughters journeyed to the frontier in St. Louis, Mo., to provide medical care to settlers. There they established a hospital in a three-room log cabin.
