Syphilis has also been called the mimic disease because its symptoms can imitate those of other diseases. Syphilis is caused by the bacteria Treponema pallidum. If syphilis is left untreated, it can cause serious and permanent problems such as dementia, blindness or death.

Hepatitis C is a virus that infects the liver. In time, it can lead to permanent liver damage as well as cirrhosis, liver cancer, and liver failure. Many people do not know that they have hepatitis C until they already have some liver damage. This can take many years. Some people who get hepatitis C have it for a short time and then get better. This is called acute hepatitis C. But most people who are infected with the virus go on to develop long-term, or chronic, hepatitis C. What Causes Hepatitis C Infection? Hepatitis C is caused by the hepatitis C virus. It is spread from one person's infected blood to another person's blood. What are the symptoms? Many people have no symptoms when they are first infected with the hepatitis C virus. If you do develop symptoms, they are usually very similar to the symptoms for hepatitis B. Hepatitis C Core Antibody Test This antibody appears approximately 1 month after infection with HBsAg and declines over several years.

HSV-1 is usually passed from person to person by kissing. HSV-1 can also spread from the mouth to the genitals during oral sex. If this happens, it becomes a case of genital herpes. HSV-2 is most often passed by vaginal sex and anal sex. But just as HSV-1 can infect the genitals and cause genital herpes, HSV-2 can pass from one person's genitals to another person's mouth, resulting in oral herpes. What Are the Symptoms of HSV? Symptoms of HSV typically appear as a blister or as multiple blisters on or around the mouth, genitals or rectum. The blisters break, leaving tender sores. Many people with HSV never have any symptoms or they mistake the symptoms for some other skin irritation like insect bites, ingrown hairs, or pimples. IGM This Herpes test is utilized for early detection of the herpes virus. The IGM test is used anytime there has been a sexual contact within the last six weeks.

Chicago Cat Clinic was founded by the late Dr. Barbara Stein in 1975 at its current location, 5301 West Devon Avenue, on Chicago's northwest side. It lies in the beautiful Edgebrook neighborhood. Dr. Stein was a pioneering woman in veterinary medicine. She was one of only four women in her graduating class and founded what was to be the second exclusively feline veterinary practice in the United States. She was an author for early feline medicine texts - especially dealing with reproduction. Dr. Stein was involved in much of the early clinical research concerning feline hyperthyroidism. She traveled extensively within the United States and internationally lecturing as a practitioner specialist.
