Friends Church started in 1995 as a group of 40 people who met in the Ft. Wainwright bowling alley conference room. Today, there are a couple thousand people who gather and call Friends Church their home. At Friends Community Church, we value loving God, loving others and loving the world. Our name comes from John 15:15: “The greatest love a person can show is to die for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.” That’s our mantra. We believe in being not just believers in, but friends of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Our vision is to fervently love God, love each other, and love the lost. This flows from the words of Jesus in Matthew 22:37-39 (The “Great Commandment”), “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And a second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” The church met for thirteen years in rented and borrowed homes, schools, fire houses, churches and even restaurants, over thirty locations in all. During this time the church grew and became increasingly diverse as people from many different ethnic groups found a home with us.

Calvary Chapel Worship Center has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and to be conformed into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over-emphasis of the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the Body of Christ. We believe that the only true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ’s agape love, which is greater than any differences we possess and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians.

The Cornerstone Peaceful Bible Baptist Church is the merger of two churches - Cornerstone Baptist Church and Peaceful Bible Baptist Church in 1987. After the passing of the late Rev. Fred Porter of the Peaceful Bible Baptist Church, the two congregations came together under the leadership of Pastors Daniel and Sabrina Mangrum. Its history has been dominated by rapid growth and the need to accommodate this growth with larger facilities. Initially, the church services were held in Capitol Heights, MD at the old Peaceful Bible Baptist Church location. Almost immediately the church grew from less than 100 to over 300 members in one year. A new facility was built in Hyattsville, MD to accommodate the growth of the congregation. However, in several years we realized that this facility was not large enough for the growing ministry. As a result, five acres of land were purchased in Upper Marlboro and the Hyattsville church was sold.

On April 3, 1995, a meeting was called by Pastor Charles E. Gibson to organize a ministry in the city of Moreno Valley. Twelve people attended this meeting. The vision of Pastor Gibson was shared at this meeting and was received in a great way. It was decided to lease an industrial building to congregate and to worship. After this was agreed upon a date was set for the first worship service On May 7, 1995, the doors of the Breakthrough Church were opened and as many as One Hundred people come to celebrate the birth of a new and exciting church. As time evolved the ministry began to grow and organize, appointing members to the board of trustees and different auxiliaries. By November of 1995, the church had well grown to over one hundred members and counting. We have a seating capacity of 225 and every week the Church overflows the sanctuary.
