Meet the Builder: Michael Bashkin - My love of guitar building grew out of my interest in wood. I began building guitars in 1994 during my graduate studies in forestry at Colorado State University. While subsequently teaching tropical forestry in Belize, Central America, I took the opportunity to hand select many of the unique woods which are featured in my guitars. Along the way, I had the opportunity to study with noted luthiers Ervin Somogyi and Harry Fleishman. My approach to guitar-building, emphasizing a seamless connection between aesthetics and functionality, has been influenced by the work of both these master builders. In 1998, I opened my shop in Fort Collins, Colorado, building guitars full-time.

Nearly thirty years ago the mother-daughter team of Florence Littauer and Marita Littauer held a single conference aimed at teaching a handful of women to be Christian speakers. These were women they had encountered as they traveled around the country to Florence’s speaking engagements. The women had great potential. Some had been teaching Bible studies. Others had an amazing life-story to tell. But all had one thing in common: They needed some coaching and polish to be able to communicate effectively. As one of the leading Christian women’s speakers in a yet undeveloped arena, Florence decided to use her love of the English language and her background as a high school and college speech teacher to help these women sharpen their skills.

Dogs & Cats Forever, Inc. rescues abandoned, neglected and unwanted pets in effort to eliminate a growing population of homeless animals in St. Lucie County. The animals at our facility are available for adoption to loving homes and those animals considered un-adoptable will live out their life comfortably at our 10.2 acre no-kill facility in western Port St. Lucie. Since 1997 we have saved and re-homed thousands of dogs and cats.

Mt. Spokane Veterinary Hospital (Associated Veterinary group P.S.) has been in existence for over 90 years in the Spokane, Wa. area. First established around 1913, it was the first veterinary clinic in the region. In the 1930’s a facility was built near the stockyard, fairgrounds and Playfair racetrack where it remained in operation as Associated Veterinary Group PS until 2001. With the urbanization of Spokane, the loss of the racetrack, and the relocation of the stockyards, the partners elected to move to a more suburban setting. In the spring of 2001 Mt. Spokane Veterinary Hospital opened in Mead, WA. Though the doctors and staff moved into a modern facility, they have kept the same friendly, rural, agricultural roots that have been the backbone of the practice through the decades.
