Short profile:
The Amalgamated Transit Union is the largest labor organization representing transit workers in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1892, the ATU today is comprised of over 190, 000 members in 264 local unions spread across 44 states and nine provinces. Composed of bus drivers, light rail operators, maintenance and clerical personnel and other transit and municipal employees, the ATU works to promote transit issues and fights for the interests of its hard-working members.
Detailed description:
ATU Members are working all over the United States and Canada in every aspect of transit, and occupations. ATU members even serve as general civil servants in areas such as Pensacola, FL.
No matter what ATU workers do, however, the goal is the same - to fight for our members to be treated fairly on the job and to improve their standard of living.
Organizing
ATU is currently engaged in one of the most vigorous and exciting organizing campaigns in its history. Our goal is simple: to bring the benefits of trade unionism to as many transit, allied and other workers as possible.
