Universal Map was founded in 1976 in the wake of the oil embargo. Previous to that time, oil companies spent millions of dollars annually handing out free maps to promote travel. Gas shortages during the embargo virtually halted travel in the U.S., and as a result, the oil companies suspended their free map programs. This left a void in the market that was partially filled by independent distributors--including Universal Map.

Over the years, Universal Map has built one of the largest collections of maps available for the United States, including a selection of city maps and wall maps that can't be beat.

This comprehensive product line is distributed across the nation, and beyond. Universal Map also provides service to many retailers nation wide through its expert Direct-Store-Delivery (DSD) team. Trained merchandisers travel the country to provide the right selection of maps for travelers at any location. In addition, Universal Map products are now available through a host of other distributions in America and internationally.
