Republic Services, Inc. engages in the collection, recycling, transfer, and disposal of nonhazardous solid waste for commercial, industrial, municipal, and residential customers in the United States. Its residential collection operations involve the curbside collection of refuse from small containers into collection vehicles for transport to transfer stations or directly to landfills. The company rents waste containers to construction sites, as well as provides waste collection services to industrial and construction facilities on a contractual basis. It also provides recycling services, including the curbside collection of residential recyclable waste, and the provision of a variety of recycling services to commercial and industrial customers. As of December 31, 2005, the company owned and operated 92 transfer stations, 59 solid waste landfills, and 32 recycling facilities, as well as operated approximately 6, 100 collection vehicles. Republic Services was incorporated in 1996 and is headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
