AST has a long prosperous history of innovation. We opened for business in 1984 at the end of Ronald Reagan’s first term in office. “Star Wars” was the big public defense-oriented initiative, but quietly, there was a serious investment in stealth and national technical information collection. It was also a time of significant technology change. Our founders had the vision to harness the dawn of digital signal processing to revolutionize signals intelligence (SIGINT). Over the last twenty-five years, SIGINT has become exponentially more complicated and challenging, and AST is still on the cutting edge. We are developing and deploying new technologies across the intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) spectrum that serve an increasingly diversified range of needs and a broadening array of customers.

We focused initially on SIGINT product solutions for the first fifteen years. We then began diversifying into commercial satellite communications, electronic intelligence (ELINT), and later, sensor surveillance through the acquisition of Dynamics Technology, Inc. Most recently, we added cyber intelligence and government services to our arsenal of capabilities through the acquisition of Pyxis Engineering in September 2009. Today, AST is a full-service ISR provider and one of the nation’s leaders in low size, weight, and power defense electronics.
