RodneyI have never heard a thing positive about the range master. Maybe that is his problem. "Range Master". I know many people who have stated that that they will not return until his years of over eating and sedentaryness have caught up with him. However it is a nice range.

JJjIt's a great place to shoot. Cheap. Very reasonable. $3 to shoot pistols. Not bad at all. Don's is more expensive.
Sure they have rules. I don't mind rules. One guy today was shooting his pistol as fast as he could squeeze the trigger and the range master told him to slow it down. Do I think that guy can shoot as fast as he can safely? I don't know because there are a lot of unsafe people. Do you really need to be told not to go after your target if it blows off the bench and down range? It happens often and the range master is trying to keep everyone safe with the rules.
The guy is pretty nice if you talk to him. Not that you need to talk to him to be nice to you. Buy if you talk to him you will realize he's pretty nice. :)

PaulWe visited the Ark Game & Fish Comm Mayflower shooting range facility yesterday, and found the facility to be very organized, well run, and to be honest, professional. There has been criticism of the range in postings from others; however, we found the previous criticism to be unmerited. Yes .. they check every weapon to ensure no rounds in chamber or magazine (we are talking about high powered weapons, and the rules are posted before one drives on). Yes .. the range controller watches the parking lot and range with binoculars (would you want someone to be careless and the range controller not know it?). Yes .. the activity on the range is controlled (for a good reason .. we are talking handguns and rifles being fired!). We found the personnel to be serious (but polite) about their task and the rules that govern the facility. The Mayflower range separates the users according to weapon: handguns/shotguns/.22 rifles; highpower rifles; skeet. Personally .. I was very glad that the range controller was watching all users of the range and enforced rules to ensure safe use of weapons and the range. If one wants to use a shooting range that is in great condition, very reasonably priced, and organized (they provide targets, ear gear, etc.) then this is a place for you .. and your family.

- RWeeks: There is nothing wrong with the range master at the Mayflower Range. He does his job well and if some knothead cruises in doing something unsafe or not complying with the range rules he is sent home. I glad he is there watching my back. The AGFC Mayflower range is by far one of the best I've seen. 50 yd pistol range, 200 yd rifle range, skeet and trap ranges. All for use at a reasonable rate. Off season is the best time as allot of hunters wait until the week before season opens to check their sights and it gets crowded then. But in the off season I've been there on Wednesdays or Thursday and had the entire range to myself. Great asset and privilege, just read the rules sign at the gate entrance and don't bring an attitude with you. It could cost you a ticket and some cash as well as being sent home early. No complaints here.
past weekend
DARREN Visited the mayflower shooting range for the first time this past weekend. I had been warned by a coworker that the range master was quite a stern character. To be a representive of the state of arkansas, I'm embarrased to all of those visitors that may have been offended by his lack of personality. That man is a total jerk, who gets off on his power to allow people to use his range or at the whim of his decision not be able to shoot at this range. The range master sits in his office and watches people pull onto the parking lot with his binoculars. Range master approached us and accused us of hanging around our vehicle too long before exiting and entering the registration line. He accused us of entering the state property and then unloading our magazines while in the vehicle (not true). The fella asked my buddy if he had a loaded magazine in the locked vehicle. My buddy answered honestly "yes" and was then banned from shooting at the range. The webpage says that magazines are allowed to be loaded if in a locked container away from the handgun. My vehicle is a locked container and was seperate from the handgun. I'm telling you this guy gets off on his little world of power. Just go to the indoor range at don's weaponry and have a good time. If you do attend... beware of the angry short man.

- Brent: I've been to that range several times since the late 70's early 80's? (can't remember exactly when my first trip there was as I've lived in the area since 1972 & the "angry short man" has been there for as long as I can remember. I have never had an experience as bad as what "Darren" describes but I can attest to the fact that the range master @ the Mayflower Arkansas game & fish shooting range is not kind of all. Basically he is your typical govt. agent only with a worse than average attitude. When you go there expect to file a complaint with the ag&F later.
