The Streicher family has been involved in the Toledo asphalt business since 1860, when H.P. Streicher was first established.

The company originally built roads in the Northwest Ohio/Southeast Michigan area.

Initially H.P. Streicher had a local focus, constructing rudimentary driving surfaces made of dirt mounds, corduroy roads (logs), and drainage ditches on either side.The company eventually began working on cobblestone roads, but it was the second-generation ownership that generated significant business development.

After years of success in paving contracting anywhere from Toledo to Chicago, the Streicher family moved into the asphalt supply business as road contracts became scarce during the Great Depression. With high unemployment came federal work programs, such as the WPA, which hired crews to build roads, making it difficult for private construction companies to win contracts. H.P. Streicher moved to the supply side of the asphalt business in order to survive.

In 1947 Atlas Paving was formed by the Sweeney brothers as a hot mix asphalt paving company.

Eventually, H.P. Streicher would take over Atlas Paving in the 1960s due to financial problems. The Streicher family has been running the company ever since.
