Detailed description:
Avista Adventist Hospital joined Adventist Health System in October of 2001 forming the Rocky Mountain Region along with two other Colorado hospitals, Porter and Littleton.
More than 100 years ago, the Seventh-day Adventist church established the Colorado sanitarium dedicated to providing healthcare for this community. In 1905, the institution was renamed the Boulder-Colorado Sanitarium. In 1962, the old building was demolished and a new, modern hospital, called the Boulder Memorial Hospital, was built. The hospital was sold to its competitor, Boulder Community Hospital in the late 1980s. Shortly afterward a new hospital was built in the rapidly growing area of Louisville. The facility was named Avista Adventist Hospital and opened in Louisville in 1990. It serves the community of north metro Denver and has 58 private patient rooms.
As time passed, however, the original facility and location had limitations that would inhibit the ability to grow. To respond to this need, in 1990 a new hospital in Louisville was opened. The community response was overwhelming, and because of the remarkable growth experienced, Avista is now in the midst of a $32 million expansion project that will nearly double its size. This expansion will increase the capacity, reduce the waiting times for several of their critical services and allow them to add some important new technologies.
Today, Avista Adventist Hospital is a full service acute care hospital with a medical staff of more than 500 physicians. In addition to providing first-rate critical care services (emergency, trauma and intensive care), Avista is the home of the area's leading birthing services.
Other specialty areas include hand rehabilitation, osteoporosis, orthotics, continence program, pre- and post-natal exercise classes, audiology/hearing aids, pool therapy, sensory integration and massage therapy.
