BALLET ARTS SCHOOL

Located in San Antonio, Texas - Ballet Arts School strives to provide students with a nurturing environment for training in ballet with pointe and partnering, jazz, tap, modern, character, boys ballet, creative movement and pre-ballet. The studio produces an annual recital at the end of the school year.

Established in 1973, the studio has been under the ownership/directorship of Judith Clement Gani since 1989.

Ballet Arts students are exposed to a number of opportunities that enrich their technique. Many advance to become members of Alamo Arts Ballet Theatre, a non-profit performing company for the very serious dance student who desires to pursue a career in dance. Ms. Gani is executive director of AABT. The company performs several times during the year and affords children at Ballet Arts the opportunity to audition for parts in children's ballets.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT (age 3-4 years)

1 hour/week

Stretching, strengthening, and coordination exercises, especially designed for little bodies; development of motor skills (hop, skip, leap, step slide); Creative Movement (hop like a frog, fly like a butterfly, curtsy like a princess, bow like a prince); rhythm and counting; accompanied by music.

PRE-BALLET (age 5-6 years)

1 hour/week

Continuation of stretching, strengthening, and coordination exercises introduced in Creative Movement; classical ballet feet and arm positions; basic ballet exercises, learning French terminology with movement; motor skills introduced in Creative Movement evolve into ballet steps (step slide becomes chasse); refinement of motor skills (hop from two feet to one foot, skip in different directions, leap in a specific pattern); turning and spotting.
