Detailed description:
The Cape Coral Daily Breeze has served the community for more than half a century. The paper was first published in May of 1961 by pioneer resident Dick Crawford who saw the need for a community paper for the sparse number of residents at the time. The first issue was a one-page, mimeographed sheet detailing events such as birth and wedding announcements.
Purchased by Ogden Newspapers of Wheeling, WV in 1974, The Breeze moved to its current location on Del Prado Boulevard, which housed 66 employees, in 1975. The first edition of the Cape Coral Daily Breeze hit the streets as an evening publication on November 3, 1975. Today, the Breeze has expanded operations to three locations — two adjacent buildings on Del Prado as well as a new printing facility at Jetport, near Southwest Regional International Airport — and employs 155 individuals.
Building on its strength — reporting local news — and continuing to refine that craft will be the on-going role of the paper. "Our goal is to be the primary provider of local information for Cape Coral, " Jack Glarrow, publisher of Breeze Newspapers, said.
