BUTLER FARMS- LOUISE BUTLER

Short profile:

One place where prices have gone up, but not in comparison to many other things, is food. We pay way less for food in our country than they do in many other parts of the world. That is partially because so much of the agricultural industry is subsidized. Our local farms aren’t subsidized by any means.

Detailed description:

Sometimes someone says that farmers’ markets are too expensive. I truly don’t know if they’ve done comparison shopping, or if they’re comparing farmers’ markets to off-price produce stores. I know you’ve heard me say this before, but often they are confusing price and value.I do not think that locally produced fruit, vegetables, meat, poultry, eggs, etc. will ever be produced as cheaply as mega farms can produce them, but there is much more to food than just the cost.
