El Centro del Barrio, founded in 1973 and doing business as CentroMed since 2001, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Federally Qualified Health Center. CentroMed offers primary medical and dental care, behavioral health services, nutritional services, and other support services through a network of 21 sites located throughout San Antonio and Bexar County. Since 1999, CentroMed has received three-year accreditation from The Joint Commission and was most recently reaccredited in 2011.
CentroMed is an integrated health care system that provides accessible services of superior quality. CentroMed operates a network of 20 clinic sites that offer comprehensive quality care by offering Family Practice, Pediatrics, Women's Health/OB Gyn and Walk-In appointments.
CentroMed hires full-time physicians and Clinicians to provide continuity of care to patients. Patients are encouraged to see the same medical provider to ensure that their healthcare needs are met and understood.

In addition, CentroMed offers a full service Pharmacy Department that is available to fill in-house prescriptions for established patients. Professional and bilingual staff are available to serve you. CentroMed offers dental care services to children and families. Services include complete dental exams (x-rays and oral exams), as well as preventative care (cleaning, sealants and fillings). CentroMed has full-time professional dentists, hygienist and dental assistants to ensure that patients receive the highest level of care. CentroMed offers a behavioral health department that provides therapeutic counseling services to individuals and families.
Bilingual masters-level professional therapists assist children and adults with many concerns including: school truancy, alcholism, drug abuse, stress management, grief and loss, marital problems, behavior problems, anger management, depression, anxiety, incest and sexual abuse, physical abuse, family violence and parenting. CentroMed has been providing healthcare to homeless persons since 1989. CentroMed WIC provides pregnant and postpartum women, along with infants and children up to the age of five nutritional services. WIC ensures that qualifying families receive nutrition education in conjunction with supplemental foods. In addition they provide breast feeding assistance, medical referrals, counseling and health screenings.
Elder Day Activity Center: CentroMed operates two programs that operate within the same facility: The Day Activity Health Services (DAHS) program and The Activity Center for the Frail Elderly (ACFE) program. HIV services are provided to adults age 18 and older. These services have been partially funded by Ryan White since 1992. CentroMed coordinates closely with other agencies providing HIV services to ensure that patients receive appropriate supportive and specialty services. Patients who are uninsured may be eligible for Ryan White funding.
