CHARITABLE CHOICES

To be in the Charitable Choices web site, national or international charities must be part of the federal government’s on-the-job fund-raising campaign, the Combined Federal Campaign.

Charitable Choices will not receive any part of your donation. We will not receive any of your personal information. Indeed, we will not know if you make a donation or not.

For more than 25 years, we have provided trustworthy charities opportunities to jointly promote their work. By doing this, these groups save their resources while donors are able to learn a lot about a broad range of charities they may want to support.

Charitable Choices grew out of the effort in the early 1980s to allow federal employees to make on-the job donations to a much broader range of charities.

Most charities use a donation processing service operated by Network for Good, which is a charitable organization begun by three technology companies including AOL. It charges a small fee to cover the costs of processing a credit card transaction and transferring the money to each charity. For most charities, Network for Good charges 5% (for some charities that pay a monthly charge, the fee is 3%). This 5% fee is added to your donation by Network for Good. If you give $100 to a charity, Network for Good will add $5 to your credit card transaction. Other online donation services have their own fees, but for the ones we know about, the fees are modest. Giving online is a very efficient way to give – direct mail or phone solicitations can easily eat up half or more of your donation. Again, Charitable Choices receives no part of your donation.
