Detailed description:

Here, in the heart of Dutch Country, you can get away from the bustle of big city life, learn a bit about our Amish and Mennonite neighbors, snag a few bargains at the outlets, discover some fabulous antiques or take a walk through history.

Here is a sampling of some of the best Lancaster County has to offer.

Amish/Mennonite Heritage. Learn about the Old Order Amish and Mennonites, who shun "worldly" modern conveniences for a more simple and faith-centered lifestyle.

Shopping. Lancaster County is home to 180 outlets, where you'll find bargains on name-brand items all year long! And since Pennsylvania does not charge tax on clothing sales, you can save even more. Learn more on our shopping page.

Antiquing. In our antiques guide, you'll find privately owned antiques dealerships throughout the Lancaster County countryside, including Adamstown which has been called "America's Antique Capital".

Railroading. The Strasburg Rail Road has been running steam engines through the countryside for the past 166 years. The nearby Railroad Museum and a number of railroad-related shops make this quaint country town a railroader's paradise.

Beautiful farmlands. There's a reason why Paradise, PA is located in Lancaster County. Take a tour in a motorcoach or horse and buggy and view the lush green fields that attracted America's early settlers to our area.

A step back in time. We're proud that 28 covered bridges, historical sites -- such as Lancaster's Central Market, Wheatland, the home of President James Buchanan -- and nearby Gettysburg make Lancaster County a historian's dream. Learn about Lancaster's history or check out our listing of historic attractions and historic homes.

Area attractions. From an 18th-century commune to a medieval-style fairgrounds to a state-of-the-art theme park, Lancaster County and its surrounding area offers many fantastic attractions that will please the entire family.
