Short profile:
Community Capital Fund facilitates the flow of capital and expertise into housing and economic developments that benefit low and moderate income people in the Greater Bridgeport Area.
With a shared goal to promote economic development and reinvestment in the Greater Bridgeport Area, CommCap was created in 2005 from a merger between the Bridgeport Neighborhood Fund, founded in 1986 to provide loans for affordable rental housing, and the Grow Bridgeport Fund, created in 1996 to provide loans to small businesses.
Together, these organizations have:
Invested more than $35 million in Greater Bridgeport; Provided loans for the development of over 1000 units of affordable housing; Financed over 75 businesses, helping to retain/create hundreds of jobs & to increase tax base.
Detailed description:
As a self-sustaining nonprofit loan fund, CommCap pools a variety of funding sources to make loans available to qualified borrowers. Supported by our donor/investors and community partners, CommCap’s model utilizes the fees and the interest earned on our loans to replenish the fund itself and to sustain our operations – making fair rate loans that might not otherwise be bankable, and making a difference in Bridgeport and beyond.
CommCap plays an important role in facilitating the preservation and development of affordable housing, and strengthening neighborhoods in and around the greater Bridgeport area.
We make housing loans to non profit and for profit developers of affordable housing for the acquisition and rehabilitation of multi-family residential and mixed-use properties.
CommCap serves as a vehicle for public dollars that are invested in economic and community development projects. In this role, Commcap facilitates the implementation of Federal and State programs that support business and affordable housing development.
CommCap offers investor-donors an opportunity to provide growing and staying power to all types of industries in the Greater Bridgeport Area: from manufacturing and healthcare, to housing, entertainment, retail, restaurants and more.
Our philosophy is simple. We believe in making capital accessible to businesses when banks won’t, but we do so, by adhering to responsible lending practices and portfolio management that banks understand. Doing so allows us to provide capital at a fair rate to the borrower and at a reasonable return to our investor-donors.
