Short profile:
The City of Coral Springs has led the way in growth and development in Broward County since the founding of the Coral Springs Economic Development Foundation, Inc. in 1993. The EDF is proud of its many accomplishments and having contributed to making Coral Springs the premier community in which to live, work and raise a family. Through the commitment of our staff and Board of Directors we have successfully recruited appropriate commerce and industry to our community.
Detailed description:
“The EDF’s mission is to implement an economic program, which through careful planning and public/private cooperation will diversify the commercial tax base, consistent with the city’s quest to be the premier community in Florida in which to live, work and raise a family.”
The EDF has had a long track record of success. Since it’s inception we have attracted 126 corporations to the City, assisted in the expansion of 21 others and helped retain 5 more. This performance translates into the creation and absorption of over 7.3 million square feet of office and industrial space in 15 years of service to our community.
Achievement of this goal is so important to our community because the more successful we are in economic development, the less pressure there is to raise City property taxes to fund continued expansion and improvement of City services. In fact, since the EDF has been in business the City has not increased it’s operating tax rate!
There is still more to come. The City has reached residential build-out and is very close to commercial build-out. There are many new opportunities presenting themselves in economic development. We have a very active Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) which is currently working on infrastructure changes at the intersection of University Drive and Sample Road. We are beginning to look at other redevelopment opportunities with the City, including the Corporate Park of Coral Springs, located south of NW 39th Street and Brokenwoods Country Club.
The EDF orchestrated the first work force-based partnership titled Coral Springs College and University Partnership (CSCUP), which currently enrolls over 2, 400 students. The partnership includes Broward College and Barry University. Broward College, who will have a permanent presence in Coral Springs since signing an interlocal agreement with the city, is expected to begin offering classes at their own campus beginning in 2011.
