CORNERSTONE PEACEFUL BIBLE BAPTIST CHURCH

The Cornerstone Peaceful Bible Baptist Church is the merger of two churches - Cornerstone Baptist Church and Peaceful Bible Baptist Church in 1987. After the passing of the late Rev. Fred Porter of the Peaceful Bible Baptist Church, the two congregations came together under the leadership of Pastors Daniel and Sabrina Mangrum. Its history has been dominated by rapid growth and the need to accommodate this growth with larger facilities. Initially, the church services were held in Capitol Heights, MD at the old Peaceful Bible Baptist Church location. Almost immediately the church grew from less than 100 to over 300 members in one year. A new facility was built in Hyattsville, MD to accommodate the growth of the congregation. However, in several years we realized that this facility was not large enough for the growing ministry. As a result, five acres of land were purchased in Upper Marlboro and the Hyattsville church was sold.

For two years, Cornerstone held their services at Gwynn Park High School while the new facility was being completed. In April 1997, Cornerstone moved into their new 22, 000 square feet facility on Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro. In 2002, the Excellence Christian School (ECS) opened on this site with forty students serving K-5 to sixth grade. The school grew to serve over 160 students in the school year 2007-2008.

As a result of an increase in our church and school population, in 1990 we purchased 21 acres on Frank Tippett Road to accommodate a larger church/school facility. In addition, another seven acres were purchased adjacent to this property three years later. Construction began in April 2007. The first phase of this facility was completed in September 2008. This new 66, 000 square feet facility will house the church and the school until the second phase is completed.

Presently, the church membership has grown to over 3500 members and the school's enrollment (K-4 through ninth grades) is over 200 students. The church has two locations, one on the five acres on Crain Highway and the new facility on 28 acres on Frank Tippett Road. The ministry has a popular television program which reaches over two million viewers. Pastors Daniel and Sabrina Mangrum preside over an energetic, fervent worship experience held each Sunday at 7:30am and 11:00am. This is a ministry that has come a long way in a very short time. Cornerstone Peaceful Bible Baptist Church has a rich history which promises to give way to an optimistic future.
