Custer McDermott Animal Hospital is a full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care since 1999. Our veterinarians are an experienced team committed to staying current with the most recent developments and techniques in veterinary medicine. We schedule a consultation with a technician to gather information about your new puppy or kitten and to discuss general puppy and kitten care. After consultation with a technician, a veterinarian will thoroughly examin your new family member and make recomendations to keep them healthy. Plan one hour to allow us to examin your new puppy or kitten, completely answer all your questions, and to get you the start you need.

Regular wellness examinations allow us to thoroughly examin your dog or cat and to screen for problems you may not be aware are present. This is also a time for us to discuss your pet’s lifestyle and determine what we can do to keep him/her healthy. Vaccination requirments and options will be discussed so you and your veterinarian can determine what is best for your pet. Wellness evaluation often includes parasite screening and wellness testing to detect problems early before symptoms of illness develop. Parasites are prevalent in Texas and can be a significant health risk for your pet. Not only are parasites unhealthy for your dog or cat, but some of the parasites that infest dogs and cats can cause serious medical problems for exposed people. We will discuss the parasites that are a risk for your pet and you and make recommendations on how to prevent infestation. There are many very good parasite prevention products available. We will help you choose their right product(s) to protect you and your pet. Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic testing when indicated to determine your pets’ health care needs. We have many testing options in the clinic that provide rapid results in acute cases of illness when answers are needed fast. Our veterinarians routinely perform general surgery. For some procedures we utilize a traveling veterinary surgeon who will come to Custer McDermott Animal Hospital to provide an additional level of expertise and the convenience of our facility. Our pet stylists offer grooming by appointment with one hour appointments for small dog breeds and cats. We have two hour turnaround for larger dog breeds. Our goal is to have a stress free and positive experience for your pet. We offer a unique one-on-one grooming service for both cats and dogs. Our groomers can perform specific breed grooms and all grooms include nail trim, ear cleaning, bath (medicated if needed), conditioning, and hand drying.
