Short profile:
Since its founding in 1947, Dana-Farber has been committed to providing adults and children with cancer with the best treatment available today while developing tomorrow's cures through cutting-edge research. The mission of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is to provide expert, compassionate care to children and adults with cancer while advancing the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, cure, and prevention of cancer and related diseases. As an affiliate of Harvard Medical School and a Comprehensive Cancer Center designated by the National Cancer Institute, the Institute also provides training for new generations of physicians and scientists, designs programs that promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations, and disseminates innovative patient therapies and scientific discoveries to our target community across the United States and throughout the world.
Detailed description:
Rising 14 stories above Brookline Avenue, the Yawkey Center for Cancer Care embodies one of the hallmarks of Dana-Farber: an unwavering commitment to innovation and discovery, and compassionate care. Created with guidance from many of our patients and families, it was built to advance clinical care, optimize patient safety, enhance the patient experience, and provide a welcome and nurturing environment. The Yawkey Center adds 275, 000 square feet of clinical and support space and is designed to accommodate more than 100 exam rooms, more than 150 infusion spaces, and 20 consultation rooms. The building is also connected to other Dana-Farber buildings, and to our clinical partners, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital Boston – providing patients with seamless care coordination. Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center in Boston combines the focus of a leading cancer center and the resources of a major hospital to provide comprehensive care for adults with cancer. Outpatient care takes place at Dana-Farber, and inpatient care takes place at Brigham and Women's Hospital. These institutions are connected by bridges and by a commitment to work together to offer patients state-of-the-art treatment. While no two families whose lives are touched by childhood cancer or blood disease are the same, every parent wants the very best care for his or her child. Dana-Farber/Children's Hospital Cancer Center, an integrated pediatric oncology program through Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Children’s Hospital Boston, provides - in one specialized program - all the services of both a leading cancer center and a pediatric hospital. Through Dana-Farber/Children's Hospital Cancer Center, care for pediatric patients is provided by a team of pediatric specialists and nurses trained to care for young cancer patients. Our focus is solely on the diagnosis and treatment of children with cancer, and providing care for young cancer survivors.
