Short profile:
Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center, a 286-bed acute care facility located in southeast Las Vegas, has been providing high quality healthcare to residents of Southern Nevada since 1971. The hospital provides 24-hour emergency services, and has a designated area in the emergency department to treat patients with less serious injuries and illnesses. The hospital has long been referred to as "The Heart Hospital" by long-time residents, due to its solid reputation as a leader in cardiac care. The hospital is nationally recognized for its diabetes, cardiac, stroke and bariatric surgery programs.
Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center's mission is to provide the highest quality healthcare services to our customers while stewarding our human, financial and material resources.
Detailed description:
SERVICES: Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center's complete cardiovascular services include a cardio-pulmonary laboratory, three catheterization labs, tilt table technology, cardiac surgery, cardiac rehabilitation and the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit—a dedicated care unit for cardiac patients.
Desert Springs uses special tools to maintain tight blood-sugar control during patient hospitalizations such as the Glucommander — a computer that works with an insulin drip to monitor patients’ blood-sugar levels.
Our Emergency Department offers quality, efficient emergency services and urgent care 24 hours a day. And thanks to our Comprehensive Assessment, Review and Disposition (CARD) room, we're expediting the treatment of acute illnesses and injuries. In the CARD room, patients can watch TV, read and enjoy the soothing murals painted by local artist Dena Blake while undergoing testing and treatment.
Nuclear medicine is a medical specialty that uses safe, painless, and cost-effective techniques to image the body and treat disease. Nuclear medicine imaging is unique in that it documents organ function and structure, in contrast to diagnostic radiology, which is based upon anatomy. It is a way to gather medical information that may otherwise be unavailable without surgery or more expensive diagnostic tests.
Representatives of Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center's Case Management Department are available to help you and your family cope with the problems and stress that often accompany illness or hospitalization. Professional social workers provide support and guidance in dealing with an illness or treatment and can help you make decisions about discharge plans. They are experienced in working with community agencies that can provide you with the services, including extended care facilities, you may need following discharge. They also can assist with lodging recommendations if a patient's visitors need them.
