DR. JAMES FINCH

James Finch, MD, is an Addiction Medicine Specialist in private practice in Durham, NC. He provides confidential, evidence-based treatment for individuals struggling with addictive or other compulsive behaviors. While Dr. Finch has over 15 years of experience as a specialist in Addiction Medicine, he brings to his practice the generalist perspective of a Family Physician.

The consequences of drug abuse or dependence can be devastating. In the past, individuals and physicians were hampered by a lack of available tools to treat these disorders. Fortunately, research and knowledge in this area have dramatically increased in the last two decades. Clinicians now have better scientific, evidence-based clinical tools at their disposal, including a much greater range of medication and behavioral assisted treatments.

One dramatic example is the development of Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) for the treatment of dependence on drugs in the opiate class, such as Percocet, Oxycontin, heroin, or methadone. Dr. Finch began working with this medication shortly after it was released and is one of the most experienced physicians in its use in North Carolina.

A range of complementary behavioral interventions are available through the group practice spearheaded by Dr. Finch and Jane B. Finch, LCSW, called Changes by Choice: Broad-Based Options for Recovery. A Suboxone support group is one option, sensitive to the needs of individuals involved in this form of treatment.
