Short profile:
The Duke IGSP Undergraduate Program provides an educational foundation for undergraduates interested in the genome sciences and their implications through the Genome Revolution FOCUS cluster and other courses. The program also includes undergraduates with opportunities for independent research and professional development.
Founded in 2003, the IGSP represents Duke's response to the dizzying array of developments that have emerged in the genome sciences. Thus, the IGSP's mission involves not only cutting-edge genome science, technology and their applications, but also the deliberate and thoughtful study of the impact of that science and technology on virtually every facet of human activity.
Detailed description:
We are dedicated to the study of life through scientific inquiry involving interdisciplinary research in genome sciences and policy. We are a passionate supporter and facilitator of campus-wide research and scholarship that explore the impact of genome sciences on all aspects of life, human health and social policy.
Our passion for the implications of genome sciences on humanity, our interdisciplinary approach to its study, our commitment to education at all levels, and our dual focus on policy as well as science - these are what set the IGSP apart.
The Genome Revolution requires new analytic tools and new cross-disciplinary approaches. IGSP offers degree-granting programs and fellowships that encompass the interdisciplinary aspect of the Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy as a whole.
