Short profile:
The staff at Utah Valley Specialty Hospital believes that recovery is not just physical – it is also a very emotional experience. Patients need a caring, highly-trained and supportive team to maximize recovery and regain independence. The Specialty Hospital provides advanced long-term acute care, including high observation/critical care, for patients who require time to heal from catastrophic injury or illness. Inpatient Services: Stroke (CVA), Spinal cord injury, Amputation, Major multiple trauma, Fracture of femur, Brain injury, Neurological disorders, Active polyarthritis or severe or advanced osteoarthritis, Knee and/or hip joint replacement, Orthopedic dysfunction. Outpatient services include physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
Detailed description:
The following specialized programs will be offered, as well as additional programs as needs are identified: Aquatic Therapy, Arthritis Program, Lymphedema Treatment Program, Neurological Rehabilitation, Orthopedic Rehabilitation. Utah Valley Specialty Hospital is the FIRST to Offer and the First to Market the Full Bioness Program in Utah County. Stroke and other neurological patients can now regain lost mobility and achieve greater independence through treatment options that include the Bioness® NESS H200 Hand Rehabilitation System and NESS L300® Foot Drop System. The innovative functional electrical stimulation (FES) systems help patients recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and incomplete spinal cord injury regain muscle control, giving them more function, more freedom, more life. The NESS H200 Hand Rehabilitation System is easy to use and has been shown to facilitate return of hand function in patients at the acute phase of recovery following stroke and brain injury, as well as in select patients whose injuries are years old. The NESS L300 Foot Drop System is the first FES system that is wireless, low profile and lightweight. The system has three components: a gait sensor worn in the shoe, a wireless stimulating leg cuff worn below the knee and a clinician-programmed control unit. The advanced Intelli-Sense Gait Sensor technology of the NESS L300® Foot Drop System allows patients to achieve a more-normalized gait on changing terrains and at varying speeds. Long-Term Acute Care Hospitals (LTACH) provide specialized medical, nursing and rehabilitation services for patients who need more advanced care for their recovery process, but who no longer require services in a traditional acute care hospital. Patients typically have a chronic or medically complex medical condition that requires hospitalization for an average of 25 days or more in a facility that offers a 24/7 specialized treatment program.
