The first Neighborhood Market appeared in Bentonville, Arkansas in 1998. In ten years there were 151 of them open in the United States. Neighborhood Markets are grocery stores, representing something in between the Discount Store and Supercenters. Neighborhood Markets offer a huge variety of products, for example groceries, pharmaceuticals, photo developing services, health and beauty aids, and a limited selection of general merchandise.
Neighborhood Market by Walmart now has the same logo as Wal-Mart does. Supermercado de Wal-Mart intended to open for Hispanic communities in the United States. The first one opened in the Spring Branch area of Houston in 2009.
The store was a conversion of an existing Wal-Mart. Marketside, a chain of grocery stores, opened in 2008 and until the end of 2009 there were four Marketside stores within the state of Arizona.
