Besides the wholly-owned international operations, Wal-Mart encompasses joint ventures in China and has numerous majority-owned subsidiaries. As for Mexico, Wal-Mart's majority-owned subsidiary is Walmex. 53% of the Japanese Seiyu is owned by Wal-Mart, and 51% of the Central American Retail Holding Company, operating more than 360 supermarkets and other stores in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. Wal-Mart bought 116 stores of the Bompreço supermarket chain in 2006 in Brazil. Then, through its new subsidiary, WMS Supermercados do Brasil, took control over Sonae Distribution Group, and as a result acquired control over the Nacional and Mercadorama supermarket chains. Nowadays, Wal-Mart has 64 Super-Bompreço store and 33 Hyper-Bompreço stores, 101 Todo Dia stores, and 24 Sam's Club. In 2010 Wal-Mart is the third largest supermarket chain in Brazil.
