Gonorrhea is caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, a bacterium that can grow and multiply easily in mucus membranes of the body. Gonorrhea bacteria can grow in the warm, moist areas of the reproductive tract, including the cervix, uterus and fallopian tubes in women, and in the urethra in women and men. The bacteria can also grow in the mouth, throat, and anus. How Common Is Gonorrhea? Gonorrhea is a very common infectious disease. In the U.S. each year, about 700, 000 people are infected with gonorrhea. Also called the "clap" or "drip, " gonorrhea is a contagious disease transmitted most often through sexual contact with an infected person. Gonorrhea may also be spread by contact with infected bodily fluids, so that a mother could pass on the infection to her newborn during childbirth.

The kidneys remove waste material, minerals, fluids, and other substances from the blood for elimination in the urine. Therefore, urine can contain hundreds of different bodily waste products. Many factors, such as diet, fluid intake, exercise, and kidney function, affect what is in your urine. A urinalysis test measures several different components of urine, a waste product made by the kidneys. A routine urine screening test may be done to help find the cause for many types of symptoms. The test can provide information about your overall health and clues to many conditions. Total Urinary Analysis (UA) involves multiple routine tests on a urine specimen. A UA will routinely include color, appearance, and odor; pH; and presence of proteins, glucose, ketones, and blood. Discharge from the penis or vagina Bleeding from the vagina other than during a monthly period. Vaginal odor. Painful sex. Severe itching near the penis or vagina. Because an STD can be symptom free, do not assume that you or your partner are not infected just because you do not have any symptoms. An STD can be present for years before they become symptomatic, so the only way to know for sure if you or your partner has an STD is to get an STD test.

Many factors affect urine color, including fluid balance, diet, medications, and disease. Clarity. Urine is normally clear. This test determines the cloudiness of urine, also called opacity or turbidity. Bacteria, blood, sperm, crystals, or mucus can make urine appear cloudy. Odor. Urine usually does not smell very strong, but has a slightly "nutty" (aromatic) odor. Some diseases can cause a change in the normal odor of urine. Specific gravity. This measures the amount of substances dissolved in the urine. It also indicates how well the kidneys are able to adjust the amount of water in urine. The higher the specific gravity, the more solid material is dissolved in the urine. When you drink a lot of liquid, your kidneys should produce greater-than-normal amounts of dilute urine (low specific gravity).

What Increases Your Risk? You have an increased risk of becoming infected with HIV through sexual contact if you: Have unprotected sex (do not use condoms from start to finish). Have multiple sex partners. Are a man who has sex with other men. Have high-risk partner(s) (partner has multiple sex partners, is a man who has sex with other men, or injects drugs). Have or have recently had a sexually transmitted disease, such as syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, or hepatitis. The only way to know if you have HIV is to take an HIV test. Most tests looks for signs of HIV in your blood. A small sample of blood is taken from your arm. The blood is sent to a lab and tested for HIV. Who Should Be Tested? It is recommended that people who engage in risky behaviors such as unprotected sex or needle-sharing and all pregnant women be tested for HIV infection.

The CBC and differential are a series of tests of the blood that provides a tremendous amount of information about the body's immune system. A CBC routinely includes RBC, WBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelet count among others. Both a urinalysis and a complete blood count provides an excellent indication of a person’s overall health. It is very rare that something can be going on in the body and it does not show up in the blood or the urine. A complete blood count (CBC) provides important information about the kinds and numbers of cells in the blood, especially red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. A CBC helps your health professional evaluate symptoms and diagnose conditions. An STD is a serious illness that requires treatment. An STD like AIDS, cannot be cured and are deadly.

Root canal (endodontic) treatment treats the soft inside tissue of the tooth known as pulp. During root canal treatment, an opening is made in the top of the tooth and the inflamed or infected pulp is carefully removed. Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the number one cause of adult disability in the United States each year. Over 3 million Americans are permanently disabled because of stroke. One of the main causes of stroke is blockage in the carotid arteries – the main vessels that supply blood to the brain. Sudden but temporary weakness in an arm or leg, slurred speech, blindness in one eye, or severe dizziness are all symptoms of carotid disease. These temporary neurologic symptoms (“mini strokes”) are called transient ischemic attack (TIA). The Georgia Vascular Clinic (GVC) provides all the tools to diagnose and treat carotid artery disease. The practice’s accredited vascular ultrasound lab can quickly determine the severity of the blockage. Sometimes medication such as Aspirin, Coumadin, or Plavix is all that is required to treat carotid artery problems. When the symptoms or the blockage are severe, then carotid intervention is required to prevent stroke.
