This means vaginal or anal intercourse without a condom or oral sex without a latex barrier with a person infected with HIV. Share needles to inject drugs or steroids with an infected person. The disease can also be transmitted by dirty needles used to make a tattoo or in body piercing. If you fall into any of the categories above, you should consider being tested for HIV. The only way to know if you have HIV is to take an HIV test. Most tests looks for signs of HIV in your blood. A small sample of blood is taken from your arm. The blood is sent to a lab and tested for HIV. It is recommended that people who engage in risky behaviors such as unprotected sex or needle-sharing and all pregnant women be tested for HIV infection.

Genital herpes is a disease caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1). Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) usually causes oral herpes. Symptoms are commonly known as cold sores or fever blisters. In the past, HSV-1 was not known to cause genital herpes, but that is changing, especially among people who begin having sex at a young age. Type 2 (HSV-2) usually causes genital herpes. When it's active, it travels to the surface of the infected area and makes copies of itself, this is called shedding. It is during this time that the virus can rub off onto another person. Then the virus travels back down the nerve, where it lies dormant for a while. Symptoms of HSV typically appear as a blister or as multiple blisters on or around the mouth, genitals or rectum. The blisters break, leaving tender sores. Many people with HSV never have any symptoms or they mistake the symptoms for some other skin irritation like insect bites, ingrown hairs, or pimples.

In fact, about 75% of infections in women and 50% in men are without symptoms. If you do not get tested for chlamydia, you run the risk of several health problems. For women. If left untested, the infection can cause pelvic inflammatory disease which can lead to damage of the fallopian tubes or even cause infertility. For men. Chlamydia can cause a condition called nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) – an infection of the urethra, epididymitis – an infection of the epididymis or proctitis – an inflammation of the rectum.

RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) For Syphilis The RPR test is the most common syphilis test performed and is done so with a blood specimen. If the RPR test comes back positive a confirmatory test (fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption or FTA-ABS test) will be performed at no additional charge. If syphilis is left untreated, it can cause serious and permanent problems such as dementia, blindness or death. Syphilis is a highly contagious disease spread primarily by sexual activity, including oral and anal sex. The disease can be passed to another person through prolonged kissing or close bodily contact with an infected person. The infected person is often unaware of the disease and unknowingly passes it on to their sexual partner. Syphilis has also been called the mimic disease because its symptoms can imitate those of other diseases. This disease, called congenital syphilis, can cause abnormalities or even death to the child.
