As a water conservation district, our job is to measure and ensure that our local snow melt and rain stays here — replenishing our local groundwater supplies. We also manage the washes and measure the local groundwater and runoff — supplying important information to local water providers. Since 1912, the San Bernardino Valley Water Conservation District has worked to conserve water by diverting the natural flow of the Santa Ana River and Mill Creek into percolation basins that the District owns and operates. The District also helps to manage the Bunker Hill Groundwater Basin — a major source of water supply for local communities. We also serve as an impartial mediator and source of information for local water providers. As a District, we've started some very exciting new projects such as plans for a constructed wetlands to provide a steady source of clean, naturally filtered water for the basin.

UT, 84111 SALT LAKE CITY, 440 EAST 100 SOUTH
SALT LAKE CITY -- The Salt Lake City School District is one of the few urban districts in the country with no schools failing the No Child Left Behind requirements. Administrators say it's all thanks to a lot of hard work. Edison Elementary School Principal Tracy Vandeventer used a strategy to turn around one elementary school and is hoping to do the same at her current school. Related: Fewer Utah schools need improvement under No Child Left Behind More Utah schools met testing goals this year under federal No Child Left Behind standards than last year. However, eight Utah school still aren't making the grade. "Data has really become the basis of everything. We set up a data wall that allows us to track every student in literacy and math, " Vandeventer explained. The data walls look can be low-tech white boards with sticky notes -- like the one at Mountain View Elementary School -- where principals track every student's progress.
