The Tempe Impact Education Foundation was established in 1990 to provide extraordinary opportunities to the children of the District. Although children receive a strong basic education in Tempe, Arizona's funding formula for education is one of the lowest in the United States. Consequently, our children are deprived of experiences which children in other states receive as a matter of course. The Tempe Impact Education Foundation was established to make up for some of those deprivations. Working with private and corporate donors, national philantropies, and government agencies, our intent is to focus on the unprovided needs of children and teachers. Our efforts will take time and perserverance. Hundreds of citzens in Tempe will become the benefactors. Thousands of children will benefit. The goal of the Tempe Impact Education Foundation is to enrich and enhance the District's commitment to excellence.

In 1857, one hundred educators answered a national call to unite as one voice in the cause of public education. At the time, learning to read and write was a luxury for most children—and a crime for many Black children. One hundred and fifty years later, public education and the profession of teaching are transformed. In 1966 we joined forces with the American Teachers Association. Since then, our voice has swelled to 3.2 million members, and what was once a privilege for a fortunate few is now an essential right for every American child, regardless of family income or place of residence. Since its beginning, the National Education Association has been ahead of its time, crusading for the rights of all educators and children.

SCHOOLS-PUBLIC - SALT LAKE CITY DISTRICT, ADMINISTRATION OFFICES, SPECIAL EDUCATION
UT, 84111 SALT LAKE CITY, 440 EAST 100 SOUTH
SALT LAKE CITY -- The Salt Lake City School District is one of the few urban districts in the country with no schools failing the No Child Left Behind requirements. Administrators say it's all thanks to a lot of hard work. Edison Elementary School Principal Tracy Vandeventer used a strategy to turn around one elementary school and is hoping to do the same at her current school. Related: Fewer Utah schools need improvement under No Child Left Behind More Utah schools met testing goals this year under federal No Child Left Behind standards than last year. However, eight Utah school still aren't making the grade. "Data has really become the basis of everything. We set up a data wall that allows us to track every student in literacy and math, " Vandeventer explained. The data walls look can be low-tech white boards with sticky notes -- like the one at Mountain View Elementary School -- where principals track every student's progress.
