Just on the outskirts of Corpus Christi, Texas, we welcome you to discover Knolle Farm & Ranch, with its upscale country inn, working ranch, and event and wedding facilities. It is a place truly unique to this area; but still capturing the best of historic south Texas culture and hospitality. It stands alone in its own special world, quite different from what comes to most minds when one thinks of this area. You wont find flat farmlands or sand dunes, or miles of dense brush country. Nor will you find the pressures of city-life or the noise and commotion of such places. Instead, slip slowly into a small pocket of gently rolling hills and hundreds of acres of broad green Nueces river-bottom land, dotted with ancient oaks dripping with low hanging moss. It is a pastoral countryside where rugged meets refined. It is remote yet easily accessible.

Kinderhook Farm lies in the Hudson Valley of New York. The farm's several hundred acres of rolling hay meadows and pastures allow us to raise our beef cattle and sheep on a 100% grass and legume diet that includes no grain, antibiotics, growth hormone, or animal by-products. Our grass fed pasture system is better for the animal and our environment, resulting in nutritionally superior beef. The most important thing that we do is allow our animals to live naturally on the pastures of our farm, and graze the forages growing in our fields.

Farm Hours: (EST) Closed To The Public We have been helping folks get organic and natural foods for over 20 years. In 1996 our Virginia Beach farm was Virginia certified organic. We produce nutritious, better tasting, wholesome fruit and vegetables which have been available through local natural foods stores. As of 2003, with the much higher costs mandated by the federal organic program, we have opted to drop organic certification. While we have not changed our organic growing methods, we have decided to keep costs low and pass along the savings to our customers.

Hungry urban communities feast daily on the more than 100 different crops that bask in the Imperial Valley sun. On nearly a half-million acres of land, Imperial Valley farmers grow almost anything under the sun, from aquaculture to zucchini. Bamboo shoots, sugar cane, beef, corn, artichokes, honey, cilantro, citrus, hay, leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, and a multitude of other crops that meet a market need can be found growing in our county. In addition to providing an efficient, inexpensive and safe supply of food, fiber and fuel, the lush fields of Imperial Valley offer habitat to hundreds of thousands of birds every year. Of the 800 or so bird species found in the United States, over 400 have been spotted in and around the agricultural areas of the Valley.

"It's up to us to organize. No one can do it for us. See to it that your Farm Center endorses the State Federation at its next meeting. If the farmer does not demand a square deal no one is going to do it for him." A few weeks after those words appeared in the September 1919 edition of the Monterey County Farm Bureau Monthly, delegates from 32 county Farm Bureaus met in Berkeley to create the California Farm Bureau Federation. The fledgling organization, with a combined membership of 24, 168, elected Dr. W.H. Walker of Willows as its first president and occupied two rooms within Hilgard Hall on the University of California campus in Berkeley. The university and its Agricultural Extension Service prompted the founding of the Farm Bureau movement in California.

Do you know that a tractor's power take off, or PTO as it is commonly called, spins at a rate of 1, 000 times a minute. That's 16 times a second. Toss a six-foot rope over a spinning PTO and it will wrap around the shaft in less than a second. Now imagine that rope is your shoelace or sleeve. How fast could you pull free? PTOs provide a valuable function on today's farms and ranches, bringing a power source to remote areas where other power isn't available. But when PTOs are in operation, they pose a danger to anyone in the vicinity. The National Safety Council estimates that PTO's account for 6 percent of tractor-related fatalities on the farm. In seven out of 10 of those incidents the victim is the tractor operator. In the majority of cases, the protective shield was either missing or damaged. It is important to give the PTO the proper respect.

Organized & incorporated in 1948. Such establishment of the TCFB then allowed for the advent of the UCCE Farm Advisor & 4-H Chapters in Tuolumne County. Recently you may have read an article about our cattle operation. The article was written by Ashley Archibald and appeared in the Union Democrat. The article was about the process of “preg” checking some of our cattle and preparing those pregnant cows, and their calves, for a summer on our forest allotment. How and why the article and how the opportunity presented itself is enough for a short story. Ashley had contacted me, as president of Tuolumne County Farm ‘Bureau, regarding the diesel regulations that the California Air Resources Board had imposed and how they affected agriculture. That was my first contact with her. A bit later, she and I talked about the upcoming candidate’s night and was questioning as to it being alright for her to attend, which it was.
