We also license our biotech traits and germplasm to other seed companies, giving farmers the opportunity to purchase seed technologies in the brands they choose.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the worldwide leader for research to cure type 1 diabetes. It sets the global agenda for diabetes research, and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of diabetes science worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, and can be fatal. Until a cure is found, people with type 1 diabetes have to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin injections multiple times or use a pump each day, every day of their lives. And even with that intensive care, insulin is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications, which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation.

More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. We spearheaded breakthrough science in pursuit of devices, technologies, and potential therapies that will help people control their diabetes, keeping them healthier and complications-free until we find a cure. Our groundbreaking continuous glucose monitor research the first step in our journey to build an artificial pancreas not only generated excitement in the scientific community (and was named one of the top research advances of the year by ABC News), but also led to increased insurance reimbursement for CGM devices by most every major insurer. We catapulted the field of regenerative medicine to the forefront in diabetes research, creating momentum for more researchers to pursue this science with discovery after discovery of the regeneration and expansion capabilities of insulin-producing cells.

The Tempe Impact Education Foundation was established in 1990 to provide extraordinary opportunities to the children of the District. Although children receive a strong basic education in Tempe, Arizona's funding formula for education is one of the lowest in the United States. Consequently, our children are deprived of experiences which children in other states receive as a matter of course. The Tempe Impact Education Foundation was established to make up for some of those deprivations. Working with private and corporate donors, national philantropies, and government agencies, our intent is to focus on the unprovided needs of children and teachers. Our efforts will take time and perserverance. Hundreds of citzens in Tempe will become the benefactors. Thousands of children will benefit. The goal of the Tempe Impact Education Foundation is to enrich and enhance the District's commitment to excellence.

The Sunshine Kids Foundation was founded by Rhoda Tomasco in 1982 while she was serving as a volunteer in the pediatric cancer unit of a hospital in Houston, Texas. After seeing the loneliness and depression among children during their extended hospital treatments, Rhoda had a vision to provide these young cancer patients with opportunities to participate in positive group activities which promoted self-esteem, personal accomplishment and just plain old fashioned fun! Today, that vision has been realized many times over, as thousands of children from hospitals across the country have reaped the benefits of The Sunshine Kids Foundation’s many programs and national and regional events. Funded by personal contributions, corporations and foundations, the Sunshine Kids continues, as it has since its inception, to provide all of its activities completely free of charge to the children’s families and hospitals.
