Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach was organized in 2002 as a humanitarian effort, working with healthcare organizations to recover and responsibly redistribute medical equipment and supplies to people in need around the world. Bruce Compton, our first President/CEO, had experienced the challenges associated with equipment redistribution firsthand. As the Director of Administration and Finance for a rural Haitian clinic that served 200, 000 people, he had received countless donations of supplies that were unusable because they either did not fit the needs of his center or were inoperable. With no mechanism in place in Haiti to pass on or dispose of the unused items, receiving donations often became more hardship than help. Today, Mission Outreach distributes more than $6 million in surplus equipment and supplies each year, with accountability measures in place to ensure appropriate distribution.

In 1992 Carroll County Memorial Hospital opened a hospital-based Rural Health Clinic to provide additional access to health services and support to residents of Carroll, Trimble and Gallatin County and to all patients including Medicare and Medicaid program members. In 2000 the hospital became a critical access hospital and provides inpatient and skilled and rehabilitation services with 8 full-time medical staff in a 25-bed facility. We also have an occupational medicine program serving over 200 regional industry and a general surgeon providing both inpatient and ambulatory services to area residents. The changing face of our population has necessitated planning for the change in the healthcare needs of this area. At our new clinic we offer boarding for cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, and other exotics. We can arrange for boarding at our clinic even if your pet has not visited us before. We welcome you to take a tour of our new facility, to see where Fluffy or Spike will be staying. To aid in the comfort of your animal, you may bring blankets, a bed, toys, or an old t-shirt to make your pet feel more at home. We have indoor and outdoor boarding available, with a limited number of each size. Boarding will fill up quickly during holidays, so please call early to reserve a spot for your pet.

Edward White Hospital is named in memory and in honor of Edward Higgins White, II, a Gemini 4 astronaut and the first American to walk in space. Lt. Col. White., USAF, was the pilot for Gemini Titan 4, a 4-day, 66-revolution space mission from June 3 to June 7, 1965. During the third “orbit”, Colonel White carried out the United States manned space program’s first extravehicular activity (EVA for short). He was outside Gemini 4 for 21 minutes, using a maneuvering unit to direct his spacewalk. Born in San Antonio, Texas, on November 14, 1930, Colonel White was a member of the United States Military Academy class of 1952. Upon graduation, he entered the U. S. Air Force and received his pilot’s wings in 1954. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) named him to the astronaut program in 1962.
