East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) is a 25-year-old membership non-profit organization, founded in 1984, dedicated to working with communities in Alameda and Contra Costa counties to preserve, protect and expand affordable housing opportunities through education, advocacy, and coalition building. EBHO’s members are behind many of the innovative affordable housing advocacy efforts in our communities. EBHO’s membership, made up of over 200 organizations and individuals, includes non-profit housing developers; development consultants; affordable housing and homeless advocates; architects; fair housing and tenants rights agencies; community and neighborhood organizations; clergy, congregations, and inter-faith groups; homeless and social service providers; municipal housing agencies and staff; financial institutions; and elected officials.

AbilityFirst provides programs and services to help children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities reach their full potential throughout their lives. We offer a broad range of employment, recreational and socialization programs and operate 12 accessible residential housing complexes. When our organization was founded, the name reflected the thinking and norms of the time. The ensuing decades, however, brought dramatic change. We expanded to provide programs for adults, as well as children. We also broadened our mission in order to meet the needs of those with developmental disabilities, as well as those with physical disabilities. Development disabilities include autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and epilepsy.

The Poarch Creek Indians Housing department provides tribal members with decent, safe and sanitary homes. The Poarch Creek Indian operates a low-income rental housing program, a Mutual Help ownership program, and Tribally Assisted Home Ownership Program (TAHO). The homeownership programs were designed for Tribal members who are within the low to medium income guidelines and who are able to make long-term financial commitments. The rental program has assisted 30 Senior Citizens and 76 single families since 1986. The Mutual Help program assisted 70 Tribal families during the years of 1996 to 1999 before it ceased operation. The TAHO Program was designed following some of the Mutual Help program guidelines. This program has continued to help hundreds of Tribal families own affordable housing. Applicants are required to make a contribution toward the project. Contributions can be land or down payments.
