The infected person is often unaware of the disease and unknowingly passes it on to their sexual partner. Syphilis has also been called the mimic disease because its symptoms can imitate those of other diseases. Pregnant women with the disease can spread it to their baby. This disease, called congenital syphilis, can cause abnormalities or even death to the child. What Causes Syphilis? Syphilis is caused by the bacteria Treponema pallidum. If syphilis is left untreated, it can cause serious and permanent problems such as dementia, blindness or death.

RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) For Syphilis The RPR test is the most common syphilis test performed and is done so with a blood specimen. If the RPR test comes back positive a confirmatory test (fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption or FTA-ABS test) will be performed at no additional charge. Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common men's health problem characterized by the consistent inability to obtain or sustain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. It is estimated that 50% of the men between the ages of 40 and 70 have ED. It can involve a total inability to achieve an erection or ejaculation, an inconsistent ability to do so, or a tendency to sustain only very brief erections. Erectile dysfunction is also commonly referred to as impotence. The risk of erectile dysfunction increases markedly with age. Medical conditions that increase the risk for ED include: hypertension. diabetes. heart disease. elevated cholesterol or lipids. atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). obesity, and other conditions that impair the blood flow or nerve supply to the penis. IVP is an x-ray of the urinary tract. It involves the injection of a special substance called contrast that is filtered by the kidneys and helps visualize the urinary tract. A KUB (kidneys, ureter, and bladder) is a standard x-ray that will show many stones. Urinalysis examines a urine specimen for infection, blood, or other abnormality. Urine culture and sensitivity shows if the urine is infected and determines the specific bacteria as well as the appropriate antibiotic for treatment. Urine cytology evaluates the urine for cancer cells. Urodynamic testing examines bladder and sphincter function. It involves putting a small tube in the bladder and asking the patient questions while slowly filling up the bladder and measuring pressure.
