The San Diego Blood Bank must collect 400 pints of blood every day in order to meet the needs of area hospital patients who are battling life-threatening blood disorders like aplastic anemia, sickle cell anemia and leukemia, as well as those who need blood during trauma situations. Their stories are very real and their need for blood is ongoing. Please take the time to read about a few of our patients whose lives have been directly affected by volunteer blood donors. You can Make the Most of Your Donation by donating specific blood components like red blood cells, platelets and plasma according to your blood type. The San Diego Blood Bank uses an automated process called apheresis to separate these individual components, which allows for more efficient collection of blood products. For example, the number of platelets collected in one apheresis collection may equal the number collected from 6 to as many as 18 individual whole blood donations.

What You Should Know Prior to Donating There is more than one type of blood donation. You have some choices about how to make a difference in life! Whole blood donation - you donate a pint of whole blood which can be used either whole or separated into blood components. The actual donation takes about 15 minutes. Apheresis donation - you donate a specific blood component, such as red blood cells. More red blood cells can be donated at one time by apheresis than by a whole blood donation. The apheresis donation is done using a machine which separates out the desired blood component. An apheresis donation may take up to an hour, so come ready to read or relax! The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon is dedicated to the humane treatment of feral cats and to the prevention of future generations through spay/neuter programs and education. The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon is a trap-neuter-return (TNR) program for feral and stray cats living in Oregon. The goal of the program is to reduce suffering for existing feral cats and prevent the births and suffering of future generations. The program's services are targeted for feral cats who have caregivers feeding them. The caregivers trap the cats, bring them to a clinic, and return the cats to where they are being fed with a commitment to feed the cat(s) on a permanent basis.
