    Ellet Branch Library is located in the center of the Ellet Community. The new Ellet Branch Library opened Monday, August 9, 1999. Current library statistics show that Ellet Branch has 18, 069 registered borrowers, circulated 272, 880 items in 2009, and has a collection of 71, 490 items. We are open 6 days a week to meet your needs for education, information, and recreation. Our friendly, skilled staff includes a branch and adult services librarian; two librarians serving children from babies through high school age.     The orignal building (known as East Branch Library) first opened in 1922 in a rented room in the Goodyear Club House. In 1939 it became the first branch library of the Akron Public Library to occupy a building designed, built, furnished and owned by the library system. The building cost $45, 000.

    In 1946 the Akron Public Library sent its first bookmobile into Richfield Township. On location service was begun somewhat later in a sub-station in the Baptist Church. In 1950 the branch moved to rented space in the township Fellowship Hall. On July 1, 1956, the Akron Public Library and the township trustees signed a formal agreement for library service, and in March, 1960 the library moved into new quarters in the Town Hall.

  • The Patricia W. and J. Douglas Perry Library is home to most of the Old Dominion University Libraries’ collections and services. The University Library was opened in its present location off 43rd street in 1976, with a major addition and renovation completed in February 1998. It was renamed the Patricia W. and J. Douglas Perry Library on December 10, 1998 and was dedicated on April 15, 1999. The Perry Library includes an impressive collection of monographs, periodicals, government publications, maps, various electronic resources, videos, and other media. In addition to a comprehensive reference collection, the Perry Library houses a broad, diverse, general collection of materials to support the research needs of the students, faculty, and community at Old Dominion University.

    The library for the 8th Circuit began as a one-person operation in 1896. In 1948 Congress authorized all circuits to hire librarians. In 1971 the 8th Circuit hired its first professionally-trained librarian. The staff was expanded a few years later to include a clerical assistant and a library assistant. Over the years the growth of the library paralleled that of the Judiciary. As the caseload and number of judges increased, so did the body of law, the number of legal research resources, and consequently the library staff. We now have one headquarters library in St. Louis and nine branch libraries located throughout the Circuit
