The Department is organized into nine geographic regions called Divisions, with a Central Office located in Montgomery. The Central Office is organized into the Office of the Transportation Director and the Office of the Chief Engineer with Bureaus and Divisions reporting to the Chief Engineer. Additionally, the Department has several other boards and committees that operate either within a bureau or as a cooperative effort among several bureaus and/or divisions.

We are the Capitol City Branch established in January 1972. We represent 7 stations in the Montgomery, Alabama installation and 15 merged stations located across the state from the Mississippi line to the Georgia Line. We provide union representation to more than 385 members in 21 post offices.

The Alabama Cattlemen’s Association is a service based non-profit organization headquartered on Capitol Hill in Montgomery. Producer and member driven, the ACA’s mission is two-fold: To promote beef consumption through producer checkoff assessments and to protect and enhance the business climate for cattle production in Alabama through member dues. The start of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association began with Luther Fuller, a farm products agent for the Tennessee Coal, Iron, and Railway Company (T.C.I.) based out of Birmingham, Alabama. T.C.I. sold metal and steel products such as wire fencing, metal gates, feed troughs, as well as basic slag to cattlemen and farmers. During World War II, cattlemen were disadvantaged by rationing of beef and other food supplies as well as price roll-backs on beef. Fuller recognized that his customers and their industry were under attack and the best way to defend them was to get them organized.

Created by the Legislative Act in 1984, the Alabama Indian Affairs Commission (AIAC) represents more than 38, 000 American Indian families who are residents of the State of Alabama. Recognizing the unique cultural and sociological needs of Alabama’s “invisible minority”, the Legislature specifically charged AIAC to… “…deal fairly and effectively with Indian affairs; to bring local, state, federal resources into focus…for Indian citizens of the State of Alabama; to provide aid…assist Indian Communities…promote recognition of the right of Indians to pursue cultural and religious traditions…” Noting that charge for action, AIAC is placed in a liaison/advocacy role between the various departments of governments and the Indian people of our tribal communities. AIAC stands alone to represent the Indian people of Alabama who wish to stand together with their fellow citizens while maintaining their own cultural and ethnic heritage.

The Alabama Retail Association was formed in 1943 for retailers by retailers in response to the need for representation when public policy was made Today, ARA represents almost 3, 500 members ranging from large national chain stores to small family owned retail stores. The primary objective of the Alabama Retail Association is to lobby the Alabama Legislature and the U.S. Congress on behalf of retailers. ARA works at the local, state and national levels of government to educate lawmakers on the needs of retailers and cultivate a strong business climate. The Montgomery Humane Society (MHS) Board of Directors recognized the need for a systematic approach to reducing the number of unwanted animals in Montgomery County and formed the MHS Spay/Neuter Committee in early 2006. This committee was charged with researching proven methods for reducing unwanted animals in other areas of the United States and making recommendations regarding those methods that would be most appropriate for Montgomery.
