Every new Willamette Dental patient receives a thorough caries risk assessment to determine susceptibility to dental caries. Decayed tooth surfaces are diagnosed and coded based upon how deep the decay goes into the tooth. The dentists then make appropriate treatment plans from the information gathered. Advanced areas of dental caries will be restored utilizing traditional filling materials and methods. Mercy Family Center, a multidisciplinary outpatient mental health clinic for children, adolescents, and their families, opened its doors on October 5, 1992 on a budget of $60, 000 and a staff of three. If you call during non-office hours, we have an answering service that takes our calls and passes along any emergency situations. In early 2005, Dr. Augusto Pareja through a partnership with Mercy Medical Center came to Sawyer Medical Center to provide a boost to the long-time providers already in place. By the middle of 2005, it was confirmed that this was a positively strategic move for the future of patient health care in the community. By early 2006 and as Dr. Pareja became more established, support staff was added to assist with the burgeoning patient traffic. As patients began to get better, they told their family and friends, and it was again confirmed that a positive, empowering health care experience had to endure at 55th and Kedzie. Indeed, Pareja Medical Center was becoming a new kind of clinic restoring health and youth.

Massage has been proven to reduce pain, but a recent article proved that massage works even when modern medicine fails. Fibromyalgia is a condition of chronic pain that is notorious for being unresponsive to even the most potent pain medications. A study published in the March 2005 issue of the Clinical Journal of Pain compared a group of patients who received education, massage, and medical care to a group of patients who receive standard medical care alone. The researchers showed that the massage group reported significantly less pain and medication use. This group also had improved symptoms of depression.
