My artwork ranges from very naturalistic art to work that is surrealistic. Much of my art reflects my interest in the chaos and randomness of nature that creates an order of its own. Many of my paintings reflect intricate, detailed scenes from nature. The work ranges in size from small, intimate drawings and watercolors to large oil paintings. I maintain a studio in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania and have had a long career as an artist, competing in many major exhibitions. I've won awards in the following exhibitions: Pittsburgh Society of Artists, Westmoreland County Museum Exhibitions, Washington & Jefferson College National Painting Show, Three Rivers Arts Festival, Pittsburgh, PA Nemacolin Woodlands Resort Invitational. My work has been exhibited at various local galleries: Bird in the Hand Gallery, Sewickley, PA; The Sewickley Gallery; World West Galleries, Washington, PA; Riehl Fine Art, Bethel Park, PA; Concept Art Gallery; Artists Co-Op, Washington, PA.

This plein air workshop will instruct students in the process of creating a landscape painting at a coastal area in Santa Cruz County. Students will receive instruction in landscape composition, value patterns, color mixing, and paint application through presentations, demonstrations, and instruction at your easel. Prior painting experience helpful. First session, Sat Oct 30, we will meet at my studio. After a brief orientation, we'll walk to a nearby location to paint. We will meet at locations to be announced on the other 3 Saturday mornings. Students work on painting principles of composition, color, value and paint application. Michele demonstrates various stages in the painting process.

The Des Moines Art Center is an art museum with an extensive collection of paintings, sculpture, modern art and mixed media. It was established in 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa. A large exhibition hall rotates through several themes during the year, most of which are featured from one to three months at a time. Included on the grounds are outdoor sculptures and a rose garden. An external reflecting pool is surrounded on all sides by the museum. R&F Handmade Paints was established in 1988. In that time we have been instrumental in the expansion of encaustic painting throughout the United States and Canada both because of our manufacture of high quality encaustic paint and because of our extensive workshop program in encaustic technique. In 1990 we developed our second product, Pigment Sticks, of which Bill Creevy in The Oil Painting Book / Watson-Guptill, 1994 said, "Of all the brands of oil sticks currently on the market, none can compare in quality and beauty to R&F Pigment Sticks." The Gallery at R&F is the third component of our company. Julie Hatch, the owner and artist of Bloomingtiles has been hand-painting tile for her clients since 1984. For many years Julie has searched for a way to reproduce her artwork in limited editions while maintaining the appearance, durability and rich color of hand-painted tile. Bloomingtiles is the result of this effort. It allows her to dedicate several weeks to complete one painting and then offer a reproduction of it at a fraction of the cost of her hand-painted work.

The beauty of nature is my main inspiration. Through my photography, I present nature, not as the lens captures it, but as I see, feel and experience it - an endless array of exciting colors, shapes and designs. I use various techniques to present what I feel and experience at the moment of capture. When nature gives me that perfect moment, I'll present it as a traditional photograph. When it doesn't, which is most of the time, I'll process the image in a more impressionistic manner that looks more like a painting, in fact, I call those my PhoDigital Paintings. Other times, I will use my lens as a paint brush, actually moving the camera while I'm shooting to produce a more abstract image.

I'm a perfectionist. In my journey to fine my creative self, I would always give up because I couldn't reach perfection. With photography, I know that I will never find perfection, but learning about the people, places and things around me...including myself...makes it a creative outlet that I will never give up. For me, it's enough to enjoy the perfection found in nature.

I am an artist and landscape painter whose paintings depict the beauty of the western United States - its mountains, rugged coast, creeks, rivers, valleys, deserts, rockscapes, farmlands, orchards, and vineyards. I also paint wherever I travel and am showing some paintings from France and Greece. Many of my landscape paintings are painted "en plein air", or outside on location.

Karen Moriarty's paintings are exhibited in Fort Wayne, Valporaiso IN and Evanston IL. Recently influenced by Larry Rivers, Helen Frankenthaler and Cezanne, she evolves, splattering and pouring paint onto delicately stained canvases. Primarily an oil painter, she has started gluing objects onto some works and experimenting with abstraction.
